Return to Play Framework

The MHL’s governing body, the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) announced its Game Plan 2.0 framework outlining return to play protocols and procedures for the 2021-22 season.

Made in alignment with Hockey Canada’s Safety Guidelines and the Ontario government’s COVID-19 Return to Sport Guidelines, the Game Plan 2.0 framework was formulated with the expert advice of medical and public health professionals at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto as well as Toronto Public Health, York Public Health, and Peel Public Health. The framework aims to get GTHL players back on the ice in a safe, fun, and secure environment while minimizing the risk of infection.

In a nutshell:

  • 5 on 5 hockey
  • Masked & vaccinated volunteers
  • Vaccinated players (born 2009 or earlier)
  • Social distancing where applicable
  • Each team will have a Safety Rep
  • Pre-game/practice health screening

Over the coming days, the MHL Safety and Operations Committees will be reviewing the Game Plan document with a view to determining its effect on the MHL’s planning for 2021-22.

Vaccination Accommodation Process

In conjunction with their Return to Play Framework for 2021-22, the GTHL has announced its’ Vaccination Policy Accommodation Request Application process.  Any individual who is seeking an Accommodation within the MHL should apply using this LINK.

By way of process, an Applicant will complete one of two forms:

CREED/RELIGION ACCOMMODATION or MEDICAL ACCOMMODATION

Once the appropriate form has been properly completed, it is to be uploaded HERE. This link is also contained in the application form itself.

This is the only method by which an Accommodation application will be accepted.  Once an application has been submitted, an internal review process will be conducted. An incomplete submission will result in the request being denied.

The Applicant can expect to receive an email response in no more than 14 days.   There will be one of two responses: Approved or Denied.

The response time will depend upon the number of requests received.  If the applicant is approved, they will receive an email notification that is to be provided to the Mississauga Hockey League. A notification of approval will replace the need for the Applicant to provide proof of a second vaccination dose.  This notification may stipulate conditions that must be followed by the Applicant.
